Environmental Education

Nowadays, environmental education is a hot topic in schools, because youths are the future of the planet they call home.  The time left to save the planet from permanent damage is fast-approaching. So starting early to teach and care for the earth will prevent future environmental problems.

Causes and after-effects of ‘greenhouse effect’

The greenhouse effect is created by industry, agriculture activities, deforestation and the great use of vehicles— cars and trucks. When the temperature of the earth rise, it causes snow to break on glacial masses, floods on islands and coastal cities, and more devastating hurricanes.

Important lessons on the environment

Topics  such as the ‘greenhouse effect’ are taught in classes.  A process that occurs in the atmosphere and is beneficial to earth because it keeps the heat ‘inside’ the planet.  However, when the heat escape, it creates global warming. This result means the medium temperature for this planet is higher than it should be.

Also discussed in these classes is natural resources—a renewable asset for human life. Examples of this include energy  from  solar and wind. But these natural sources are being threatened by environmental crises, responsible for compromising natural resources. It could mean an end- to-life as we know it by putting an end to plants and animals. The most urgent problems in the crisis are the greenhouse effect, global warming, acid rain, deforestation and the ozone hole.

Actions to sustain the environment

An important topic to study is recycling. An activity talked about for years and is making incremental progress. This practice alone can have several positive impacts—decrease pollution on the soil, water and air and reduction of deforestation.

Sustainable development is a plan made by the UN based on three values: social, economic and environmental. It has seventeen goals to  fulfill the necessities of the next generation.  Some of these goals are to achieve universal primary education, ensure ecological sustainability and affordable and clean energy.

Environmental education not only impacts  the environment, but also on the children. According to some studies, this class has improved leadership, personal growth and critical thinking. Even though these classes are taught to the younger generation, it’s essential for everyone to learn about the problems created in the environment and the role they can play in environmental sustainability.
